Imperial College London Pioneers Global Collaboration with India Through New Bangalore Centre

Imperial College London has unveiled its latest international initiative, Imperial Global India, marking a significant milestone in the institution's longstanding relationship with India. This strategic venture aims to foster high-impact collaborations in science, technology, engineering, medicine, and business (STEMB) between the UK and India, addressing global challenges through joint research and innovation.

Situated in Bangalore, India's tech capital, the Imperial Global India hub is poised to serve as a dynamic platform for academic and industrial partnerships. The initiative seeks to facilitate a two-way exchange of talent, support the growing Indian alumni network, and showcase the transformative potential of UK-India collaborations in science and innovation.

Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial College London, emphasized the significance of this endeavor, stating, "Our ambition with Imperial Global India is to strengthen and expand our academic, industrial, and innovation partnerships, and to showcase the world-class impact that UK-India science and innovation can have on shared global challenges. Together we will use science for humanity to create a more resilient world."

The launch of Imperial Global India has garnered support from prominent figures in both the UK and India. The Rt Hon David Lammy MP, UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, remarked, "Education lies at the heart of the UK's relationship with India. It forms the core of the living bridge between our nations and unlocks opportunities that benefit both countries. I'm delighted that Imperial College London, one of the world's best and most international universities, is strengthening its partnerships in science, technology, and innovation with India."

This initiative aligns with the UK-India Technology Security Initiative, established during Mr. Lammy's visit to Delhi in July 2024, which outlines collaborative efforts across key technological domains. The Imperial Global India hub is expected to play a pivotal role in driving economic growth, creating skilled jobs, and enhancing lives in both countries.

Indian government officials have also expressed their enthusiasm for the collaboration. Dr. M.C. Sudhakar, Honourable Minister for Higher Education, Government of Karnataka, and Mr. Priyank Kharge, Honourable Minister for Electronics, IT, and Biotechnology, Government of Karnataka, have acknowledged the potential of this partnership to advance education and technological innovation in the region.

The establishment of Imperial Global India signifies a deepening of the UK-India partnership, leveraging shared expertise to address pressing global issues.
