Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister Engages with Indian Leaders During New Delhi Visit

In early March 2026, Norway’s Deputy Foreign Minister Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik visited India, engaging with senior government officials and institutions during his stay. According to updates shared by the Norwegian Embassy in New Delhi, the visit included meetings with India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and a brief exchange with External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.
The visit featured engagements across diplomatic, academic and institutional platforms. Discussions during the visit touched on areas such as trade and investment cooperation, academic engagement, and dialogue on human rights, reflecting the breadth of interactions between Norway and India.

High-Level Bilateral Engagements
During his visit, Kravik met Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi. Following the meeting, Goyal noted that the interaction involved a “productive discussion on the current trade and investment landscape in India, exploring avenues of mutual interest to further strengthen the India–Norway partnership.”
The engagement highlighted ongoing exchanges between the two countries in the economic domain and provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of collaboration.
Raisina Dialogue Participation
Kravik’s visit coincided with the Raisina Dialogue, India’s annual conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics. During the event, he participated in discussions and held bilateral interactions with international leaders and officials attending the conference.
The Raisina Dialogue serves as a platform for dialogue on global challenges and cooperation, bringing together policymakers, diplomats, and experts from different regions.

Academic Engagement at JNU
As part of the visit, Kravik delivered a lecture on international law and multilateralism at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) under the institution’s Global Leaders Lecture Series.
He also met Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Dean of JNU’s School of International Studies. The engagement focused on strengthening academic exchanges and dialogue between Norwegian and Indian institutions.
Human Rights Dialogue at NHRC
Kravik’s delegation also visited the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in New Delhi on March 5, 2026. During the visit, he met NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian, Secretary General Bharat Lal, and Joint Secretary Samir Kumar.
According to the Norwegian Embassy, discussions at the commission focused on the promotion and protection of human rights, forming part of the broader institutional engagement during the visit.
