India and Iceland Hold 4th Foreign Office Consultations in Reykjavík to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

India and Iceland have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral engagement across trade, investment and strategic sectors during the fourth round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held in Reykjavík, Iceland, as India and Iceland Hold 4th Foreign Office Consultations.


The talks focused on strengthening cooperation in economic and emerging areas while maintaining close coordination on regional and global issues of mutual interest.​


The Ministry of External Affairs update was shared by official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on X, where he announced that the 4th India–Iceland FOC took place in Reykjavík and outlined the key outcomes of the consultations.​​

Senior Officials Lead the Dialogue

The meeting was co‑chaired by Secretary (West) in India's Ministry of External Affairs, Ambassador Sibi George, and Martin Eyjólfsson, Permanent Secretary of State in Iceland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


According to the official readout, the two sides reviewed the "entire gamut" of bilateral cooperation, taking stock of progress and identifying areas where ties can be further strengthened.​


Priority Areas: Trade, Investment and Renewables

Both delegations agreed to expand collaboration in trade and investment, with a particular focus on renewable energy, including geothermal resources, as well as fisheries and people‑to‑people exchanges.


These sectors have been consistently highlighted by both governments as central pillars of the India–Iceland partnership, building on earlier rounds of consultations between the two countries.​

India–EFTA TEPA Highlighted

The consultations also underlined the importance of the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) in shaping future economic engagement.


Officials noted that the agreement has opened a "new chapter" in economic and commercial ties and agreed to deepen the momentum of business linkages under this framework.​


Regional and Global Issues Discussed

In addition to bilateral topics, the two sides exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest, continuing their practice of regular consultations on wider strategic issues.


The latest FOC thus served as a platform to align perspectives and sustain the forward trajectory of India–Iceland relations.
