India & Poland
India and Poland are leveraging their historic ties to build a modern Strategic Partnership, targeting a $10 billion annual trade goal driven by focused collaborations in high-tech, aerospace, and defence sectors.

Sometimes, the strongest modern alliances grow from quiet acts of kindness in the past. Decades ago, Indian royal families provided a safe haven for thousands of Polish families during the Second World War. Today, that enduring empathy has evolved into a dynamic economic alliance. The diplomatic landscape is currently witnessing a significant milestone as leaders from both these nations convene to solidify their bilateral relationship.

The cornerstone of this renewed focus is the ongoing progress regarding the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement, which has fundamentally broadened opportunities for collaboration between the two republics. This development underscores India's rising economic strength and reflects a broader strategic alignment aimed at shaping a prosperous global future.

Historic Bonds Drive New Ties

The friendship between the two nations goes far beyond standard diplomatic meetings. It remains deeply rooted in shared human values and historical compassion. During the difficult years of the Second World War, the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur offered refuge to thousands of Polish children and women. This forged an emotional bridge that endures to this day. Building upon this strong foundation of goodwill, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk have guided the relationship into a highly productive modern era.

Following a pivotal visit to Warsaw by the Indian Prime Minister in August 2024, bilateral ties were officially elevated to the level of a Strategic Partnership. This formal classification dictates a robust framework for mutual growth and continuous high-level dialogue.

The integration of the broader India-European Union Free Trade Agreement into this framework acts as a vital spark, multiplying the avenues through which both nations can engage in commerce and technological exchange.

Expanding Trade And Economic Goals

Economic ambition resides at the very heart of this renewed international partnership. Officials and diplomatic representatives have established a clear and ambitious objective to elevate annual bilateral trade. They aim to boost this trade from its current level of approximately USD 6 billion to a targeted USD 10 billion. This projected growth is driven by a mutual recognition of complementary industrial capacities and technological strengths.

The strategic focus encompasses a diverse array of future-ready sectors, ensuring that the alliance remains relevant in a rapidly evolving global economy. Both governments are aggressively prioritising expansive cooperation across high-value domains. These focal points include advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and the procurement of critical minerals.

Furthermore, bilateral discussions have heavily emphasised the development of trusted global supply chains, modern defence capabilities, and the peaceful application of nuclear energy. For an international audience, India's expanding footprint makes it an ideal partner for European nations seeking robust and reliable infrastructure.

Forging New Tech Business Deals

To directly engage with the heart of India's technological industry, the current agenda includes critical meetings with pioneers in the information technology and aerospace sectors. The establishment of the India-Poland Business Forum serves to connect industry leaders and investors from both sides. This effectively translates diplomatic goodwill into actionable commercial ventures.

By aligning their economic policies and focusing on advanced fields such as space technology, both republics are positioning themselves to leverage vast consumer markets. These discussions ensure that both nations are jointly prepared to navigate the complexities of global supply chain dependencies. The industrial capacities that the European Union and the Indian subcontinent represent offer immense potential for joint growth and mutual benefit.

High Profile Visits Boost Momentum

The tangible progress of this partnership is highlighted by highly significant diplomatic engagements. The recent diplomatic mission marked the first time a Polish Prime Minister has undertaken an official visit to the Indian republic in sixteen years. Accompanied by a substantial business delegation and Poland's Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domanski, the trip was designed to maximise economic cooperation.

India's External Affairs Minister, Dr S. Jaishankar, held vital discussions with the visiting leadership to broaden the scope of cooperation across these targeted sectors. The official engagements also reflected a profound respect for historical legacies. The visiting Polish delegation paid solemn tribute at the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, honouring the nation's foundational principles of peace and non-violence.

The extensive bilateral talks, the exchange of crucial MoU, and the joint press conference involving the Prime Ministers of both nations took place at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, India. These official visits and engagements will be from 21st to 23rd October 2026.
