Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has arrived in New Delhi to advance bilateral relations with India, marking a significant diplomatic engagement under the India-Poland Strategic Partnership framework established during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's historic visit to Poland in August 2024.
Jaipur Engagement and Cultural Dimension
Prior to his New Delhi engagements, Sikorski visited Jaipur from 17 to 18 January 2026, where he participated in the Jaipur Literature Festival.
His participation included a session titled "A Continent in Crisis: Russia, Ukraine and the European Story," where he engaged in substantive discussion with senior diplomat Navtej Sarna on contemporary geopolitical challenges.
Sikorski's wife, Anne Applebaum, accompanied him during the visit, adding a cultural dimension to the diplomatic mission.

Strategic Focus Areas
On 19 January, Sikorski held bilateral talks with India's External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. The discussions centered on advancing the India-Poland Strategic Partnership, with emphasis on defence, security, and economic cooperation.
The 11th round of Foreign Office Consultations held in December 2025 between Secretary (West) Sibi George and Polish Secretary of State Wladyslaw T Bartoszewski laid groundwork for these high-level talks, with both sides affirming commitment to expedite cooperation in defence, security, science and technology, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Bilateral Relations Framework
India and Poland established diplomatic relations in 1954, with India opening its embassy in Warsaw in 1957. Poland is the largest trading partner of India in Central and Eastern Europe.
The two nations have grounded their partnership on shared opposition to systemic injustice enabling robust engagement spanning defence, security, trade, science, technology, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.

Broader Context
This visit occurs as India and the European Union advance final negotiations for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
The timing aligns with Poland's proactive engagement within the EU framework and reflects intensified cooperation since the Strategic Partnership elevation in 2024.
The diplomatic mission underscores the momentum in implementing the Five Year Action Plan (2024-2028) agreed during PM Modi's August 2024 visit to Poland.
