India is participating in Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, Spain, from 2 to 5 March, with the Union Minister for Communications leading the delegation. The visit showcases India’s digital and telecom capabilities at one of the world’s most influential technology gatherings, hosted by a key European partner, Spain. It takes place as both countries place growing emphasis on cooperation in technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation.

Showcasing India’s digital strengths in Barcelona
At MWC 2026, India is setting up the Bharat Pavilion, described by the Ministry of Communications as a global platform to present the country’s telecom manufacturing capabilities and innovation ecosystem. The delegation is also unveiling the curtain raiser for India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026, India’s flagship digital technology forum, positioning India’s digital narrative prominently within a major global event in Spain. Together, these initiatives underline India’s intent to use Barcelona’s global stage to highlight its role as a trusted digital and telecom partner.
India–Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and AI
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish President Pedro Sánchez have agreed to mark 2026 as the Year of India and Spain in Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to official statements, this “dual year” is intended to promote technology, innovation, business and people-to-people ties, with a strong emphasis on the positive and inclusive use of AI. It also coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, underscoring the maturity and strategic depth of the partnership. India’s participation in MWC 2026 thus aligns with a year explicitly dedicated by both governments to deepening cooperation, including in AI and digital technologies.

Deepening digital and telecom cooperation
The Ministry of Communications has stated that India’s delegation will hold high-level meetings at MWC 2026 to explore cooperation in universal, meaningful connectivity and resilient communication infrastructure. These engagements complement India’s broader work with European partners on secure, trusted next-generation networks, including 6G research and standards. Spain, whose President recently visited India to attend the AI Impact Summit 2026, has jointly recognised AI as a transformative force and called for closer India–Spain cooperation for inclusive, beneficial deployment of these technologies. Taken together, the Barcelona engagements and the wider 2026 “dual year” agenda highlight a forward-looking India–Spain partnership centred on connectivity, AI and digital innovation.
