Maroš Šefčovič, Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security of the European Commission, has expanded his high-level diplomatic engagements in New Delhi. In an official update, Commissioner Šefčovič confirmed that his visit to India is now "in full swing," marked by successive meetings with key cabinet ministers to strengthen the bilateral partnership.

Strengthening Strategic Ties

A central component of the visit was a meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar. This interaction underscores the broader strategic alignment between the European Union and India, extending beyond economic parameters to encompass wider geopolitical cooperation. Dr. Jaishankar noted the meeting, welcoming the productive engagement with the EU delegation.

Advancing Trade Negotiations

Parallel to his diplomatic discussions, Commissioner Šefčovič is conducting a "two-day marathon of meetings" with Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal. These intensive sessions are explicitly focused on advancing the ongoing negotiations for the India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The format of these meetings highlights a dedicated effort by both administrations to address outstanding issues and accelerate progress on the comprehensive trade and investment pact.
