India and Germany held Foreign Office Consultations in Berlin on 14 April 2026, marking 75 years of diplomatic relations and reviewing the full spectrum of their Strategic Partnership.
The talks were co-chaired by Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri and Dr Géza Andreas von Geyr, State Secretary of the German Foreign Office, while Misri also met German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul during the visit.
Strategic partnership in focus
The consultations provided both sides an opportunity to take stock of the current state of bilateral ties and identify ways to deepen cooperation further. India and Germany reviewed engagement across trade and investment, defence and security, technology, green and sustainable development, mobility and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides agreed to expand cooperation in areas of contemporary relevance, including critical and emerging technologies, industrial collaboration, digital governance, renewable energy, green hydrogen, innovation and development cooperation in third countries. The talks also reflected the importance both countries attach to a practical, future-oriented partnership.

Regional and global issues
India and Germany exchanged views on key regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The consultations were held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, underlining the steady diplomatic momentum in the relationship.
The visit came soon after German Chancellor H.E. Mr Friedrich Merz’s trip to India in January 2026, which had already given significant momentum to bilateral ties. It also helped advance preparations for the next India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations scheduled later in the year.
75 years of ties
A significant feature of the Berlin consultations was the launch of the logo marking the 75th anniversary of India-Germany diplomatic relations. The milestone comes after the two countries celebrated 25 years of Strategic Partnership in 2025.
The anniversary year gives additional context to the consultations, which were not only about reviewing current cooperation but also about setting the tone for the next phase of the partnership. Foreign Secretary Misri also invited State Secretary von Geyr to visit India at a mutually convenient time, signalling continuity in the high-level dialogue.
