The fourth edition of SEMICON India 2025, to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 2, 2025, at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi, presents a unique opportunity to witness and engage with India’s rapidly evolving semiconductor ecosystem. This three-day event brings together global leaders, industry experts, academia, government officials, and innovators, highlighting India's growing prominence as a semiconductor powerhouse and offering insights into innovations shaping the future of electronics.
Growing Strategic Importance of Semiconductors
Semiconductors have emerged as a foundational industry driving technological advancement across multiple sectors. The Government of India recognizes this critical importance and has approved 10 strategic projects under the Semicon India Programme, encompassing High-Volume Fabrication Units, 3D Heterogeneous Packaging, Compound Semiconductors including Silicon Carbide, and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test facilities. These projects represent significant milestones in strengthening India's position in the global semiconductor value chain.

The government's commitment extends beyond manufacturing to research and innovation, providing state-of-the-art design tools to more than 280 academic institutes and 72 start-ups. Additionally, 23 start-ups have received approval under the Design Linked Incentive scheme, enabling Indian innovators to develop semiconductors for critical applications including CCTV systems, navigation systems, motor controllers, communication chips, and microprocessor units.
Event Highlights and Major Themes
SEMICON India 2025 operates under the theme "Building the Next Semiconductor Powerhouse" and will feature nearly 350 exhibitors from across the global semiconductor value chain. The event includes 6 country roundtables, 4 country pavilions, participation from 9 states, and expects over 15,000 visitors.
The comprehensive program covers key areas including Fabs, Advanced packaging, smart manufacturing, AI, supply chain management, sustainability, workforce development, and semiconductor designs and start-ups. Industry leaders from Applied Materials, ASML, IBM, Infineon, KLA, Lam Research, MERCK, Micron, PSMC, Rapidus, Sandisk, Siemens, SK Hynix, TATA Electronics, and Tokyo Electron will participate in high-profile keynotes, panel discussions, fireside chats, paper presentations, and international roundtables.

Official Statements on India's Semiconductor Vision
Key officials have emphasized the transformative potential of this initiative. Shri S Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, stated: "The SEMICON India exhibition will feature nearly 350 exhibitors from across the global semiconductor value chain including 6 country Round Tables, 4 country pavilions, 9 states participations and over 15000 expected visitors providing South Asia's single largest platform for showcasing the latest advancements in the semiconductor and electronics industries".
Ajit Manocha, President and CEO, SEMI, highlighted: "SEMI is bringing the combined expertise and capabilities of our member companies across the global electronics design and manufacturing supply chain to SEMICON India, helping to advance both India's semiconductor ecosystem expansion and industry supply chain resiliency".
Ashok Chandak, President, SEMI India and IESA, emphasized: "India's semiconductor industry is poised for a breakthrough, with domestic policies and private sector capacity finally aligning to propel the nation to global prominence. As we navigate this transformative landscape, collaboration and ecosystem building will be key to unlocking the next wave of growth and breakthroughs and SEMICON India 2025 plays the catalyst for this".
Networking and Knowledge Building Platform
SEMICON India 2025 serves as more than an exhibition, it functions as a comprehensive networking and knowledge-building platform. The event features diverse activities designed to facilitate collaboration across the semiconductor ecosystem, including international roundtables that bring together global perspectives on industry challenges and opportunities.
The inclusion of a 'Workforce Development Pavilion' specifically showcases microelectronics career prospects and attracts new talent, addressing the critical human resource requirements for sustainable semiconductor ecosystem growth. This platform enables meaningful connections between academia, government officials, industry experts, and students, fostering an environment conducive to knowledge transfer and collaborative innovation.
Opportunities in EU-India Semiconductor Collaboration
As the semiconductor sector continues to gain strategic importance in India-EU relations, business leaders can further explore dedicated platforms focusing specifically on bilateral collaboration. The Europe India Centre for Business and Industry is organizing the EU India Leaders Conference 2025, at the EU Parliament on 5th November 2025, which includes focused discussions on semiconductor sector opportunities within the EU-India corridor. This initiative provides an additional avenue for deepening trade relationships and exploring collaborative opportunities between European and Indian semiconductor enterprises.
The convergence of these platforms represents a comprehensive approach to building robust semiconductor partnerships that align with both India's Atmanirbhar Bharat vision and Europe's strategic technology objectives, creating substantial opportunities for businesses operating in this critical technology sector.
